Convocatoria Investigador/a Postdoctoral. Línea Challenges/Desafíos

Cargo: Investigador/a Postdoctoral.

Position: Postdoctoral Researcher. CIGIDEN R+ – Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Disaster Risk, Resilience and Recovery (ANID National Center of Interest)

CIGIDEN R+, an ANID National Interest Center, invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Challenges research line, with a focus on coastal systems exposed to multiple hazards. This is a research position oriented toward the development of knowledge, conceptual frameworks, and integrated methodologies for the analysis of risk, resilience, and recovery in coastal areas. We seek a candidate with the ability to integrate multi-scale data, articulate diverse methodologies and epistemologies, and contribute to interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research aimed at supporting decision-making.

About CIGIDEN R+

The Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Disaster Risk, Resilience and Recovery (CIGIDEN R+) is a multidisciplinary research center of excellence funded by ANID. Its mission is to reduce disaster risk, promote resilience, and strengthen recovery processes in social and built environments exposed to multiple hazards, by integrating cutting-edge research with public policy and territorial action.

The Center brings together researchers from a wide range of disciplines and institutions, with a network of six associated universities (UC, UTFSM, UNAB, UCN, UV and UDEC) present in four regions of Chile, and collaboration with four National Interest Institutions (SENAPRED, MINVU, MOP and MDSyF).

CIGIDEN R+ organizes its research around five interconnected lines: Hazards, Infrastructure, Territories, Society, and Challenges. The Challenges research line develops a multi-risk assessment (MRA) framework that integrates hazards, exposure, vulnerability, and consequences, and implements it in relevant territorial contexts in coordination with national institutions of interest.

About the Challenges line and the coastal challenge

The Challenges research line aims to articulate the Center’s research capacities around strategic challenges that require integration across disciplines, scales, methodologies, and stakeholders. Its work seeks to develop frameworks that connect hazards, exposure, vulnerability, capacities, and consequences, advancing multi-risk assessments oriented toward concrete public and territorial decision-making problems.

The Postdoctoral Researcher will join the coastal challenge of the Challenges line, which focuses on the study of coastal systems exposed to compound hazards, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, storm surges, urban-wildland fires, climate change effects, and territorial transformation processes.

This challenge considers two complementary scales. On the one hand, interconnected coastal systems at the regional scale, including cities, port infrastructure, road networks, essential services, institutions, and communities. On the other hand, local-scale coastal settlements, including artisanal fishing coves and territories linked to small-scale fisheries, where risk will be studied through social, infrastructural, economic, relational, and institutional dimensions.

Through this work, the aim is to integrate diverse data and methodologies, define consequence metrics that are relevant to different stakeholders, analyze interdependencies among systems, and strengthen capacities for anticipation, decision-making, resilience, and recovery in coastal areas.
